    When Anne Frank met Rembrandt

    Imagine Anne Frank would meet Rembrandt. What would they discuss? Well, why not the place where they lived: Amsterdam. It is the starting point of a sparkling one man theatre show, in which Jaap Vriend tells the intriguing story of the rise of Amsterdam.

    In the Torpedo Theatre, Amsterdam smallest but most beautiful venue, Jaap Vriend leaves the beaten track of tulips, joints and clogs. Instead he narrates the town's most important historical moments like the miracle of Amsterdam, intertwined with the inspiring biographies of influential inhabitants such as Rembrandt, Spinoza and Anne Frank. Vriend will add a local touch through personal experiences and songs about his beloved Amsterdam.

    In this show curious visitors or inhabitants of Amsterdam are able to travel through the Amsterdam ages, meet its world-famous celebrities and locations and learn why this world village is known as the most tolerant city in the world.

    Duration 60 minutes. In English. Free Classic Amsterdam Café Snacks.

    Jaap Vriend is a stage performer. He is known for his attracting way of storytelling, his sense of humour and his improvisation abilities. He lives and works in Amsterdam and is fluent in English.

    Flamenco

    Tarde Flamenco!

    Sebastiaan JANSEN studeerde compositie voor hedendaagse klassieke muziek voor niet-westerse instrumenten aan het Haagse en Rotterdamse conservatorium. Vanwege zijn interesse in Japanse traditionele instrumenten en de Japanse cultuur woonde hij enige jaren in Tokyo. Hier werd hij onverwacht gegrepen door de rijkdom en complexiteit van de Spaanse flamenco. In eerste instantie als danser, later als zanger. Veel bezoeken aan flamencofestivals in Sevilla en Jerez de la Frontera, masterclasses en lessen deden hem uiteindelijk besluiten zich professioneel te scholen tot flamencozanger. Voor het derde jaar volgt hij nu een voltijds opleiding in Sevilla bij gerenommeerde zangers als Manuel Romero en José el de la Tomasa. 

    Joes WIEGGERS (Eindhoven, 1997) studeert flamencogitaar aan het Rotterdams Conservatorium. Met zijn grote passie voor traditionele flamencozang en -begeleiding reist hij vaak af naar Spanje waar hij optreedt met artiesten uit de flamencoscene, zoals de zangers El Álvarez de Málaga, Manuel Agujetas Hijo, Agujetas Chico en gitarist Rubén Lara.

    Met Spaanse hapjes en Mahou van de tap.

    Hoofdrolspeler Chris Bernhart & Spetterende Letterenband treedt op tijdens het Boekenbal. Het jaarlijkse, prestigieuze glamour gebeuren in Amsterdam. Zien en gezien worden.

    Er zoemt echter iets geheimzinnigs rond. Bij de pisbakken vangt hij iets op: de schrijversbijeenkomst in Gasselteboerveen. Juist geen pers. Geen glamour. Onder elkaar, zonder opsmuk. Even op adem komen. Wanneer en waar precies is net niet helemaal duidelijk.

    Wat volgt is een spannende speurtocht naar ‘Roots’. Wat is leuker: de Uitmarkt in Amsterdam of een kampvuur met je vrienden op het platteland?

    Met zijspan motor tuft hij naar de geheimzinnige bijeenkomst. Onderweg komt hij schrijvers tegen.

    Chris groeide op in Drenthe, om de hoek bij de dorpssmid. En woont in Amsterdam. De helft van de hoofdstedelijke inwoners is import, uit ‘de provincie’. Wat doet herkomst met je? Een actueel thema, nu onze samenleving steeds meer uit elkaar dreigt te vallen. Oost versus West. Stad versus platteland. Dynamiek versus ‘Zen’. Politici versus ‘volk’.

    Op het podium: Charly Zastrau (Piano). Jaap van der Panne (Gitaren/ Zang). Pieter Ubbels (Saxofoons). Axel Schappert (Ketels/Tuba). Chris Bernhart (Contrabas, Zang).

    Belangrijk onderdeel is lied. Verhalende juweeltjes, verwerkt tot roadmovie. Pers over Chris Bernhart: Dagblad De Stem “.. de Nederlandse versie van Tom Waits..” DvhN... balancerend tussen chaos en charisma..’: Parool: (’ t IJ, optreden in een uitverkocht Carré) ... een lied, zo sterk dat het woord Amsterdam niet eens nodig is...tikkeltje van Roozendaal, maar vooral zichzelf.
