    When Anne Frank met Rembrandt

    Imagine Anne Frank would meet Rembrandt. What would they discuss? Well, why not the place where they lived: Amsterdam. It is the starting point of a sparkling one man theatre show, in which Jaap Vriend tells the intriguing story of the rise of Amsterdam.

    In the Torpedo Theatre, Amsterdam smallest but most beautiful venue, Jaap Vriend leaves the beaten track of tulips, joints and clogs. Instead he narrates the town's most important historical moments like the miracle of Amsterdam, intertwined with the inspiring biographies of influential inhabitants such as Rembrandt, Spinoza and Anne Frank. Vriend will add a local touch through personal experiences and songs about his beloved Amsterdam.

    In this show curious visitors or inhabitants of Amsterdam are able to travel through the Amsterdam ages, meet its world-famous celebrities and locations and learn why this world village is known as the most tolerant city in the world.

    Duration 60 minutes. In English. Free Classic Amsterdam Café Snacks.

    Jaap Vriend is a stage performer. He is known for his attracting way of storytelling, his sense of humour and his improvisation abilities. He lives and works in Amsterdam and is fluent in English.

    Hoofdrolspeler Chris Bernhart & Spetterende Letterenband treedt op tijdens het Boekenbal. Het jaarlijkse, prestigieuze glamour gebeuren in Amsterdam. Zien en gezien worden.

    Er zoemt echter iets geheimzinnigs rond. Bij de pisbakken vangt hij iets op: de schrijversbijeenkomst in Gasselteboerveen. Juist geen pers. Geen glamour. Onder elkaar, zonder opsmuk. Even op adem komen. Wanneer en waar precies is net niet helemaal duidelijk.

    Wat volgt is een spannende speurtocht naar ‘Roots’. Wat is leuker: de Uitmarkt in Amsterdam of een kampvuur met je vrienden op het platteland?

    Met zijspan motor tuft hij naar de geheimzinnige bijeenkomst. Onderweg komt hij schrijvers tegen.

    Chris groeide op in Drenthe, om de hoek bij de dorpssmid. En woont in Amsterdam. De helft van de hoofdstedelijke inwoners is import, uit ‘de provincie’. Wat doet herkomst met je? Een actueel thema, nu onze samenleving steeds meer uit elkaar dreigt te vallen. Oost versus West. Stad versus platteland. Dynamiek versus ‘Zen’. Politici versus ‘volk’.

    Op het podium: Charly Zastrau (Piano). Jaap van der Panne (Gitaren/ Zang). Pieter Ubbels (Saxofoons). Axel Schappert (Ketels/Tuba). Chris Bernhart (Contrabas, Zang).
